Nacida el 9 noviembre de 1914, Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler, conocida en Hollywood como Hedy Lamarr, fue una reconocida actriz e inventora austr\u00edaca que protagoniz\u00f3 el primer desnudo integral de la historia del cine. Considerada popularmente como una de las actrices m\u00e1s bellas de Hollywood, Hedy Lamarr fue adem\u00e1s una genial inventora que desarroll\u00f3, entre otras cosas, el wifi. De hecho, en Austria, el D\u00eda del Inventor se celebra el 9 de noviembre en su honor.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A pesar de que en la escuela los profesores comunicaron a su familia que Hedwig era una ni\u00f1a superdotada, y que cuando tuvo edad para ello empez\u00f3 a estudiar ingenier\u00eda,\u00a0al final la joven decidi\u00f3 aparcar sus estudios para dedicarse al arte dram\u00e1tico.<\/strong><\/p>\n

DE HOLLYWOOD A INVENTORA PARA EL EJ\u00c9RCITO<\/h3>\n

Instalada en Hollywood,\u00a0Hedy trabaj\u00f3 para el director de cine King Vidor en<\/strong>\u00a0Camarada X<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0y<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>Cenizas del Amor<\/strong><\/em>, para Jacques Tourner en<\/strong>\u00a0Noche del Alma<\/strong><\/em>, para Robert Stevenson en<\/strong>\u00a0Pasi\u00f3n que redime<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0y para Cecil B. Demille en<\/strong>\u00a0Sans\u00f3n y Dalila<\/strong><\/em>.<\/strong>\u00a0A pesar de protagonizar una treintena de pel\u00edculas, Hedy no tuvo demasiado ojo a la hora de elegirlas. Sin ir m\u00e1s lejos,\u00a0rechaz\u00f3 dos filmes que acabar\u00edan convertidos en obras maestras del s\u00e9ptimo arte como<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>Luz de Gas<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0de Thorold Dickinson y<\/strong>\u00a0Casablanca<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/em>de Michael Curtiz, y se qued\u00f3 a las puertas de poder interpretar a Escarlata O’Hara en<\/strong>\u00a0Lo que el viento se llev\u00f3<\/strong><\/em>.<\/strong>\u00a0A pesar de esto, su imagen deslumbrante la convirti\u00f3 en una verdadera estrella emergente de los a\u00f1os treinta.<\/p>\n

Con el\u00a0<\/strong>estallido de la Segunda Guerra Mundial<\/strong><\/a>, Hedy ofreci\u00f3 sus servicios al Gobierno de Estados Unidos ya que dispon\u00eda de informaci\u00f3n privilegiada acerca del armamento del ej\u00e9rcito alem\u00e1n.\u00a0<\/strong>Ubicada en el departamento de tecnolog\u00eda militar, Hedy se dio cuenta de que las se\u00f1ales de radio que guiaban a los torpedos de la armada norteamericana eran muy f\u00e1ciles de interceptar. Fue entonces cuando\u00a0elabor\u00f3 junto con su amigo el compositor George Antheil un sistema de detecci\u00f3n de torpedos teledirigidos. Inspirado en un principio musical, este funcionaba con 88 frecuencias, las equivalentes a las teclas del piano,<\/strong>\u00a0y era capaz de hacer saltar se\u00f1ales de transmisi\u00f3n entre las frecuencias del espectro magn\u00e9tico.<\/p>\n

Los militares no supieron apreciar entonces la utilidad del invento que les estaba ofreciendo Hedy hasta que muchos a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, en 1962, se produjo la crisis de los misiles cubanos.\u00a0<\/strong>Entonces la tecnolog\u00eda de Lamarr se utiliz\u00f3 para interceptar las comunicaciones y el control de los torpedos. A d\u00eda de hoy\u00a0este m\u00e9todo se emplea para los sistemas de posicionamiento por sat\u00e9lite, como el GPS, y fue el precursor del wifi.<\/strong><\/p>\n
